rack & pinion question
Hello everyone!
I need everyone to put their heads together and let me know if a rack & pinion from a 03 dakota 2wd will fit my 99 dakota 2wd. I dont see why it wouldn't fit, seeing as it is listed as 00-04 and dodge stopped using the saginaw at the end of the 98 model. Any input would be greatly appreciated, especially since my truck is simply a paperweight until I purchase a new rack & pinion.
Thanks in advance

I dont see why it wouldnt fit. since they use the same set up.
I dont know how much I would trust a used rack though. I just put one in my old dakota and it was $170 for a new one.

I don't really care if it is new or used to be honest with you. I just want to get the cheapest part that will get it back on the road. You must keep in mind that my Dakota is a paid off desert toy/daily driver. As long as it running, and in this case, steering it works for me. Also, I believe the reason you paid so little for yours is because it was most likely a "remanufactured" part. If it was brand new, you need to let me know who you have been dealing with!
ya mine was a reman
I did mine in a weekend, but I first replaced the rack, tie rods, lines in about an hour. then when I started it up, the pump started leaking.[:@] so I had to take the pump off of one of my other vehicles and swap pullys.
since yours is alot newer you should only need to do the rack. unless you broke somethin else

Nope, I only broke (and when I say broke, I mean blew apart) the rack. However, it seems near impossible to find just the rack itself. Furthermore, I would rather replace the entire assembly considering that I bought the truck in Michigan 5 years ago, and it has only been out here in California for the past year.
Well, I purchased the above-mentioned part, so when I do the install, I will let you know if this part fits properly or not. If it doesn't, I will let you know how I forced it to fit properly.

Well, i got an e-mail from the seller saying that UPS damaged the part in transit. So no part for me! [:@] Now I have to start the entire process over again. Meanwhile my truck still remains a paperweight holding down my driveway! [:@]
