How rare is this?
Hi,
I purchased a 2000 Dodge Dakota a few months ago. I don't drive it often as I have multiple vehicles. I store it in a garage all of the time except when I drive it.
Anyhow, the truck has only 8,234 on it, and it has:
Regular Cab
4.7 Liter V8
5 Speed Manual Transmission
3.92 Rear End that is 4x2 with a Limited Slip.
Black interior
Red
It has never been in an accident, the paint and bodywork is flawless, no rust besides normal surface rust on certain components, all factory equipment, driven in the rain like three times total. Never seen snow/salt/ice, etc.
The bed liner looks as if nothing was ever carried in it, the interior has nothing wrong. This truck looks as if it was never driven, or driven with care. Drives and handles like a new Dakota, no noises, clutch feels like it was never abused, the engine is cleaner than anything I've seen.
The person sold it to me with all the paperwork, manuals, keys, and even the interior tags from when it came from the factory!
So my question is... how rare of a truck is this, in this condition, in this make and type (with these features)?
I know that most vehicles these days are automatic... which I hate. I hate automatics, lol. However, I've looked around an I haven't found one like this... of course I paid top dollar for it... but as a modern car/truck collector, I'd like to know.

Low mileage Dakota in great shape is not super rare....but always a good find....and depending on what you paid would determine if you got something of value or if you paid for everything you got and then some.
Thanks for your replies. I wasn't looking too much towards the mileage... but towards the actual build type (ie: v8 with stick reg cab... etc). Not too many manufacturers are building small v8 trucks with sticks. Correct me if I am wrong, but the new 2007 Dakota doesn't offer V8 with a manual transmission.
i have the exact same truck except it's a 2001 motorsports edition with 28000 miles. This is in new york where there is snow, salt, rain , and all sorts of bad stuff and there isn't even any surface rust underneath the truck. After it gets washed it looks literally like it came off the showroom floor except the worn down tires.

The 5.9 was never available with the stick, but the 4.7 always was up to the 3G.
It was just not very commonly ordered. I'd say it's uncommon, but I wouldn't say it's "rare." Now, an R/T with a stick from the factory would be rare. (If you REALLY wanted that combo, you could probably get it; I used to know a lady that managed to get a Grand Caravan with a stick once too)

I bought a new '97 when the 2nd gen trucks came out. 2wd, 318, 5 speed, 3.92 gear, posi, short box, etc. I wanted a sports car but needed a truck. Anyway, I put on a roll pan, DJM 3-5 drop, FLowmaster muffler and a K&N CAI. I sold it in 2000 with a few miles on it. The truck was spotless. No rain, no snow, now gravel, completely flawless. I did nothing but clean under the truck every winter.
I got high book value out of it when I sold it. Next owner did the same. I would say you are looking at high retail as well. Book value gives $$$ for low mileage and there is really nothing special about it other than that. It's just different than most of the Dakota's sold that year. Oddities get the big $$$.
