Default does the front driveshaft spin when in 2 wheel drive?

for our 4x4 trucks?

I think i have a bad u joint but it only sqeaks when in 4 wheel drive, not in 2 wheel

I think you'll find that the front shafts turn all of the time, as there aren't free-wheeling hubs fitted. The reason you may be getting the noise only when in 4wd, is that whilst they turn in 2wd, they're under virtualy no load.
