Default Steering Rack Question

Hi all, I've got a quick question,

I've got a 2000 dak, 3.9 v6 Club Cab 2WD. The other day I noticed whilst I was driving down the motorway at 75 ish that I had a bit of play in the steering wheel, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of play, and when I stopped to check the play on the tie-rods I turned the road wheel by hand and looked at the rod, I reckon there's about an 1/8" play, is that normal?? it's got 67,000 miles on it. There's no leaks.

I was slightly concerned, but it's the same both sides, perhaps just general wear and tear??

Since the rack and pinion are hydraulicly assisted, there will be a slight play in the steering wheel while the power steering pump controls the flow of fluid. This is normal and you shouldn't be worried. On the other hand, if you are having an alignment problem, I would have an alignment done.

You also would want to check the fluid level in your power steering pump.

I checked the fluid, all perfect.

I'll do the alignment meself, saves time and money.
