Keeps your engine running cooler for higher performance vehicles, it also cuts down on pinging. Most of the time if your going to add mods to your car for better performance, it is a must otherwise your engine would be running way to hot. I think stock in dakota are 195 i could be wrong. but mopar engines run best at about 180, they make 160 thermos but thats to cold.. it will stay in warmup mode.

I have a 180 in mine, and it works great in the winter right now.. it takes awhile to warm up but in the summer in stop and go traffic it keeps youe engine nice and cool... also i was running at about 120 for about 3 min down the highway late at night, and i looked down at my temp and it was still around 180 it never overheats.

Jet Performance makesa 180 degree for the 4.7. You can buy them from www.jetchip.com or from www.summitracing.com.

Summit Racing sells them for $30.69 plus shipping. It's part number JET-10177.

i took the 180 stat out of my 5.2 an installed it into my 05 4.7. only had to cut the small notch into it, like the factory one. temp nevr goes over have way mark. napa part # 530080 $7.00

your computer may not be happy with the cooler thermo. Tried in on my 5.9 and it ran better, but also knocked more and gave a few codes.
