Just bought 2003 Dak and Like it BUT
Hi
Like I said just bought this vehicle and love it but buy a used vehicle get a used vehicle.
I new that going in but you would expect that you should get the minimum under a safety check ( at least breaks)
since I absolutely do not trust anyone that is involved under in the auto repair business I had this truck checked at a dodge dealer
found original rotors and bad pads look at this pic
are these rotors easy to get off
on my Bronco the whole wheel bearings and auto lock hubs need to come off
I will buy good rotorsand calipers and replace them myself
never take it to a garage!!!!!!!!!!!

Well i havn't taken a close look at mine yet, but judging by the pic the 2 bolts on the caliper should back out, (the ones that are the slider pins) and then part of the assembly should move aside, then you can pull the pads, and the rotors should just fall off. They may need a little bit of gentle persuasion from a hammer, but they'll go. As far as i know there's no hub to have to take out, but correct me if i'm wrong.
I just recently replaced my rotors and pads. The caliper came off pretty easy with two hex head (i believe that is what they are called) bolts. The rotors then came off after removing those two keepers on the lug nuts and a little gentle persuation with a hammer. The whole thing took me a little under 45 min to complete. So i guess your answer is no you do not need to take off any hubs or anything else the rotors just slide off.
those brakes look nice
theres 2 bolts on the caliper you have to take out. then use a prybar to pry on the caliper to get it off. and the rotor will just pull out.
it's amazing at what lil car dealers do to make it pass a safety. I took mine back after I bought it and made thembuy all new brakes and balljoints on mine cause they were all shot. I just told them to buy the parts and I would install them myself.

How many miles does your truck have on it to have the front breaks looking like that ?......I know when I do change my front breaks I am going to change rotors and get some nice drilled and slotted rotors for the front at least and good quality ceramic pads.......when I do should I do the same for the back disc too?

Where the hell do you live? Detroit? Those brakes are MESSED UP.
Like everyone said, they're easy. Replace the calipers too, not just pads and rotors. 7mm hex bolts hold the sliding caliper on, and I think 14mm bolts hold the fixed part of the caliper to the adapter. make sure the copper washers are thick enough or they'll leak. Apparently it's becoming a problem since copper prices have gone up.
Anyway.
drilled rotors are overrated, imho. On a race car where the brakes are checked all the time and weight is an issue, sure, but the added risk of cracking isn't worth the bling factor.
