I've gotten 6 so far. so I just turned off all pm's

Thats a pretty good idea turning the PMs off til this is solved.

 

I only opened up one, and all the others I jut deleted it as soon as I got it. but I figure if everyone just blocks their pm's that they will get bored and move on.

 

Blocking the PMs is a good idea. Unfortunately I can't. Being a mod I have to leave them open so people who have real questions can ask.

 

this may be a stupid question, but how do you turn off your PM's?

Not a stupid question at all.

At the top of the page, click on the link that says My Profile. Then scroll down to the Private Message box. Uncheck "Allow others to send you Private Message?" And that should take care of it. Just recheck it when you want to be able to recieve them again.

 

More than likely it is just a script running through the site.

If the site required email verification of account set up it would be harder to script these things.
