Poor idle, dies at stoplight, after battery disconnect?
This problem has happened before to us, but I cannot remember what we did to fix the problem? I did a search on hear and found some threads similar to the problem, but not the fix I was looking for. We replaced the tranny on my sons '99 Dakota, and had the battery disconnected. When we had the job finished and reconnected the battery, it now does not idle worth a dang, and will die when you slow down at stop lights!. I know it has something to do with the computer relearning it's idle speed, but I cant remember what people suggested to do, when I had this problem before. I know I did not take it to a shop and have the diagnostic computer reset, but I did the fix on my own. Something perhaps, about re-disconnectiing the batterys and touching the cables together maybe? Help me out guys, I'm at a loss!

system lost its keep alive memory (KAM), like JD says just drive it around for a little while and the computer will reprogram itself. if i remember correctly it can take anyware from 15-100 miles to completely relearn its program. the ghetto way of clearing the KAM is to touch the terminals together witht he battery unplugged, i bet you did that on accident.
