Hey guys....first time poster.....the engine on my 98 Dakota blew the other day and im trying to figure out the cheapest way to fix it.Should i just buy a new engine or try to find a used one? And if I should get a used one, does anyone know a cheap place to get one?? I have a 3.9L engine. Thanks!!!

my brother's '97 3.9 blew up on him. The block broke, i believe. So Dodge just replaced the lower half of the engine. twas $4000 i think. I don't remember. By the way...they are real bastards with the warranties. they denied his warranty cuz he had 33 inch tires. They'll try to find any excuse.

Cheapest route is to contact a salvage yard and see if they have a 98 3.9L V6 from a Dakota or Durango. May be about$700-1400 depending on mileage. REbuilding it (assuming teh block and heads are good and not cracked) can still run over $2500.

wrecking yard is the best place to get a used motor... probably your best option if its out of warranty

if you can wrench, motor swaps are a piece of cake...
