knocking
Does anyone with a 5.2 V8 experience knocking when the engine is first started. My truck knocks really deep like a Rod knocking and it sounds as if its comeing from the bottom end of the engine untill it runs for a few minutes then it slowly goes away. The truck has done this ever sence i bought it at 62,000 miles and i completly rebuilt the engine at 70,000 because i though something was seriously wrong with it. The engine still knocks and it has 85,000 on it now. It seems the colder it is in the morning the louder and longer it knocks for Any ideas? I've tried synthetic oils and experimented with different weight oils nothing helps
you could try and put some lucas oil treatment in it and see if that helps.
I just bought a 96 1 ton dodge van with a 318 in it for $250. and it has a mojor knocking sound in it. it sounded like some one taking a sledge hammer to it. so I did an oil change on it and put 3 bottles of lucas in it. and the knocking is gone away. I couldnt believe it.

yeah what about that engine restoring lubricant 8 cylander formula that you can buy at walmart it comes in a can we put that in my dads truck and it gave it back most of its horsepower. would that help with my trucks knocking?
Mine does that exact same thing. I dont know what it is but i assume it has something to do with the oil taking its time to lubricate some parts. Im not that worried about it unless it starts knocking when its warmed up.
My 3.9 has always had the startup knocking. Changed the oil this week and put a qt of Marvel Myster oil in with the regular kind. Now the clicking is gone. Engine has 104,000 miles; does just fine . Could that be the magic of the company that builds "ram tough"?

i guess its just a dodge thing. Oh and do you guy's trucks get spark knocks with 87 octain fuel? because mine does and it goes away with 89 octain or higher. why would it knock with 87 if thats what it recommends in the manual?
Maybe your hypertech tune needs you to run higher grade gas too. As far as the knock you could also try out a preluber. Do a search in the 1st gen Durango section and you can find info on it.
