Default Time to trade in! Wont start!

Little issues arising making me very upset.

Started the 97 SLT today from the house using the remote start. After 10 minutes, I got into the truck to drive off and now she wont hold idle?

Only starts after I press the gas pedal a bunch and then when I take the foot off, she dies? Then the battery cranks over weakly? I took the battery down to the local sop and it checks out as GOOD? Then, once she started, and idled at 1500 rpms? Turn her off, then back to stalling without gas?

And my last try. she idled fine and I put her in my garage and turned her off...now back to stalling?

I know this is a tough one to try and diagnose over the net, but anyone have a similar issue and then a fix?

Just may be the remote start??? Where should I start?

TIA, Paul

I think a NEW 1500 is in the very near future.

i had the same problem in my 98 dakota, it turned out to be the idler motor in the air intake was dirty, if you take it out of the air intake, on the 3.9L V6 it is up against the firewall and is in with a couple of torx screws, not sure which size off hand, and clean the head of it, mine was black and it should be almost the same color as brass, give that a try and let us know what happens

an idle motor sits in the throttlebody under the air intake, it pulls out from behindair intake up against the firewall, and it controls how much air can be taken into the engine at one time so that as you hit the gas the engine accelerates smoothly and when you let off of the gas it comes back to an idle slow enough to not stall, the one on my truck was all covered in carbon which was flaking off somtimes getting stuck in the inner workings, ever since i cleaned it i have had no problems

i dont know if it is the same exact part on your vehicle you could search napa online and check if you wanted (www.napaautoparts.com) just enter the year make modle engine and drivetrain and search for an air idler valve as that is apparently the official name for it, this is the link to the one that fits my truck and it has a picture on it http://www.napaautoparts.com/MasterP...+Control+Valve

Thanks everyone, but its time to say goodbye....I traded in on a Ram 1500 Hemi.

As far as the Dakota went...I cleaned out the TPS...no help....I changed out the IAC...no help...I changed out the battery and there you have it...Ran like a charm. The IAC was black as can be and while driving to the dealer, she ran much smoother, but it was'nt the cure for the stalling. The battery was. I even took the battery down the day before and it checked out good.

So...I'm moving to the Ram forum since my new ride is now sitting out in the snow in the front of the house.
