I dont see why you cant. There are 4WD pre runners. theire Trophy trucksAll you need is the fiberglass front fenders and bed sides. After that crank the torsion bars up a inch or so and get a pre runner front bumper. The nice thing is you can stay in 2WD and when you get stuck throw it in 4wd ( something regular pre runners cant do. You can go ***** out and build a rear cage get shocks and do trailing arms. Im looking to see if the IFS from a Dodge ram will bolt up to a dakota for a wide track front end. I jsut need to find a 4x4 ram with IFS.

Instead of slow, careful four-wheeling over mud and rocks
Prerunners go heavy throttle over dirt paths and deserts, The Baja race Is a prerunner race

It's also a requirement to have mild to moderate amounts of insanity to race a prerunner

That is actually what I am setting my truck up for. I have never seen a 4wd pre runner desert truck. I am not saying they don't exist, I have just never seen one and I live in the pre runner capital of the world...Orange County, California. The reason being is because you can't get the front ground clearance or front suspension travel that you can with a 2wd truck. Also, your front differential would never be able to handle the severe changes in angle.

It isn't for looks, it is for stability in the dirt/sand and to keep a wider base to the truck. This helps to prevent rollovers, and also allows more room for custom front suspension setups.
