well my engine has been knocking/tapping for awhile now but i noticed if i let it sit and idle for about 30 seconds after starting the tapping mostly goes away but if i tap the gas when its out of gear it will knock really hardbut if i'm hot roding and then stop it doesnt knock and my oil pressure gauge reads around 60 or so then as it sits there and idles it slowly drops down to about 40 and it startsknockingagain? any ideas? bottom end problems? oil pump? pluged upsomething or other? what do you guys think?

 

Sounds like a lifter tick... How cold is it where you live? and what grade oil do you use?

 

that or mabie even a bad pcv valve..

 

Use some lucas and change the oil I bet it stops

i've got some lucas just havent put it in yet. and its been about -3 Farenheit with a windchill of -15 this past week or so.im noticing an antifreeze smell when i start it now exhaust smells funny too

You know what that means right? You have a leaking headgasket.

 

yeah thats what i figured. i'm betting on a bent rod making the knocking sound.
