Default Problems shifting when cold

I have a 2000 Dakota Quad Cab 3.9l Mag . Lately we have had some cold nights and I'm finding the truck doesn't want to shift into high gear on the highway first thing in the morning. Once it warms up it's works fine. Anyone have any ideas on what's wrong ?

Thanks

That is perfectly normal. The computer knows the temperature of the tranny fluid and it won't let it shift into OD until it reaches a certain temperature. The reason for it doing this is because the tranny warms up faster when it's in lower gears.

Thanks for the reply, I'm glad to hear it isn't a big problem. It seems a little odd though because in order to drive at highway speed (100 km/hr) the engine was reving up around 3000 rpm. when it normally sits just below 2000 rpm.

It only happens when the truck is cold right? If it goes back to normal after it reaches operating temperature you should be just fine.
