ONLY good thing would be the Allison tranny on the back end of the new 6.9 diesel
excelent point my friend. an allison behind a cummins would easily be the best combo for a consumer type pickup. ford or the imports wouldnt have anything close.

I'd rather see Dodge on its own than in the hands of GM
Dodge has never been the target in any rivalry
you always see ford vs. chevy
while million-dollar mopar classics burn their rubbers off for kicks

As long as they are removed from Daimlers screwed up company. Sad when a K-car is more reliable than a Mercedes.
The funny thing is that MB made money this year, and Chysler lost money. The paper said (yesterday, haven't looked at today) that Daimler was looking at all options - letting it ride a little longer to see if things get better, selling chrysler, or just shutting it down. I'd be surprised if it didn't give it another year or two.

Merger/alliance talks happen in industries all the time. It does in my business with regularity.

But I shudder to think of the finances involved in a GM - Chrysler Group marriage. The pensions, labor contract obligations, early retirements, overlapping products, aging factories, overlapping supply lines, etc. Yuck. I personally would love to take some of those projects on but I just can't see it financially viable.

Of course, that is not to say most mergers make sense anyway. Let's just hope the Dodge lineup stays intact no matter the outcome of this situation.

I'd like to see them dissolve Chrysler, sell the name and facilities, and bring it back. Why? To get rid of the financial obligation to the union and the horrific pensions. Yeah, short end of the stick for the workers, but in order to keep the company running I think it needs to happen, and they need to keep the unions out of production. Take a look at how Toyota runs their operations. Hell, I'd love to see Toyota and Chrysler merge. Jeep already got rid of their solid front axles, so it's not like getting toyota technology would hurt anything. A Ram or Dakota with Toyota reliability? Hell yeah I'd like some cheesypoofs!

You are right that is what killed Ford's bottom line this year the retirement payout came down to them losing $1,600.00 dollars on every car and truck sold this year, the day of full pay and benefit for retiring workers is a thing of the past....in the long run we all pay the price.
