360/318 id help
I have recently purchased Yellow 99 R/T, and when i got it the motor had a slight knock. The place i bought it from took the truck back and said it was an internal engine knock ie: spun main. They said it neded to have a new engine put in it. Luckly I got it from car max and i got the 1yr bumper to bumper warranty. So they found me a used motor to put in it. I fought and fought with them for a week straight telling them i wanted a re built engine pit in it. But they insisted that the used motor they found was in great condition. So a week later its finaly in and they call me to tell me that the motor they put in also had a problem with it. so they said that they were going to put a fully RE built long block back in it ,heads and all. so now here i am ive had this truck for a month and a week and i have only got to have it in my posession for 4 days. it will be ready for me to pick up tuesday after they finishin "testing" the motor out and finish installing the lo-jack and Remote start/alarm. I guess most of this is beside the point, but i just want you guys to know where im coming from. Here is the deal how can i tell if they Put a 360 in the truck and not a 318. I know it sounds way out there that they would do that but i have ben reading things about car max that i dont really like. I kno i can look at the head and it will say 318 or 360 but im just wondering if there is any way of doing an id on the block when i pick it up. Any help would be a huge favor! Thanks all.
Heads are identical between the 318 and 360 for magnum years. I know the LA blocks have a big 360 or 318 cast into the driver's side below the head, toward the back of the motor. I could see the one on my uncle's van by looking up from below. Magnums might have it cast in a different spot, not sure on that.
Difference between a regular 360 and an R/T - nothing. They've got a different muffler and slightly tweaked ECU programming. You're looking at 10 hp and 5 lb-ft difference (or the other way around, don't recall right this moment), either way, it's not significant.
