most new cars have a 5 year paint warranty as long as it hasnt been re-painted due to an accident.

Oxidising/faded paint on flat surfaces is common on many cars due to not being waxed enough and constant exposure to sunlight and weather. A REALLY talented detail person could bring back a lot of the shine with a buffer and some polishing compound. But it would look a lot better to just repaint the panels.

My 98 had the same problem.
It started with the hood then it moved on to the quarter panels and finally the roof.
I just had the entire truck repainted and the shop never replaced the decals. They saidthe 98decals were discontinued.

My guess is they ran out of decals because every 97-98 dakota had to be repaited

I've got an 01 and my hood, roof, fenders and the doors just below the windows are all faded/starting to fade. Quoted from the link in the post above me "Chrysler, Ford, GM, and Asian automaker paint delamination—Paint turns white and peels. Carmakers usually give a full refund up to the seventh year of ownership." As the trucks here are all well over 7 years old, only thing we can do is send it in to get sprayed.

This is what mine looked like when I got it. Pretty much nothing you can do other than get it painted.

Your paint was bad

But most people damage their own paint by over waxing and using an electric buffer... very bad for the clear coat. I have never waxed my truck but 3 times the first few years and I only have a few bubbles this year on the roof and that's from the AZ hot sun.

Most people think my Dak is around 5 years old.

Replacing my head and tail lights helps and at 15 years she still looks good.

Yeah, my truck had definitely been neglected when I got it. The paint was just the tip of the iceberg. I'm pretty sure it wasn't from excessive waxing, though. I doubt the thing had ever even been washed.
