Default HeadLight problems.??

My Dad got in an accident with his 2001 Dodge Dakota it has fallen upon me as my job to fix the truck. After threw months of engine and body work we are finally ready to go. The only thing holding me up is the headlights. On the Passanger side the Head lights work fine and also turn signal. We do not have the bed on so no tail lights. The driver side though wont flash when u put the turn signal on. When we turn the truck on the left turn signal comes on and stay one. It does not however flash. The bulbs themselves do not flash either. They do however turn on when the Parking lights are turned on. .. When we hit the turn signal down and they do not flash we also hear a small humm under the dash. What could be causing these brand new running light bulbs not to flash on the driver side but yet they will flash on the passanger side.?? Also the battery seems to drain fast when we dont have it running and are just foolin wit the lights.. Could those flasher filaments in the bulbs be shorted out or would then the bulbs not flash at all>>?

The bulbs are not the reason blinkers flash. It is triggered by the flasher relay. It seems odd that one side flashes and the other side doesn't though. Unless it has two flasher relays i would think that if the relay was bad neither side would flash.

You said that you didn't hook up the bed yet so you don't have rear tail lights. Could it be possible that you hooked up the bulb for the rear passenger side and not the left. Some cars if the buld on either the front or rear blinker is out then the one that is working will either stay lit or flash really fast. If that is not the case then I would check out the flasher relay.

If it is expensive to replace pop the cover off of the relay and pull the guts out. Usually the only thing that goes bad on relays is they overheat and burn up or the one of the soldering points has messed up. Look to see if any of the solder is cracked if it is resolder it, just be carefull not to merge ywo connections.

Yeah at first I thought it was because of the rear lights not being hooked up, but then the other side still flashes.. yea I try to take a look at that relay and see if that could be the problem.

Crawled under the dash today and found there is actually only one relay for the lights so that can't be the problem... Still can't get it to work.. talked to a fellow at advanced auto and he said i have a short some where.?? but I though if the bulb was shorted out the regular parking lights wouldnt turn on because the bulb that is the parkin ligh and the blink are one in the same.

It still could be a short. It's the same bulb but two different wires. That's why it is a duel filament bulb, one wire is the parking lights the other is the turn signal. The hum and battery drain really sound like a short to me.
