It is really easy. I jsut did it to my Dak a little while ago. Disconnect the steering linkage, unhook the hydraulic lines, remove the two bolts holding the rack to the frame, then undo the tie rod ends. You will need an alignment after you re-install the new rack, but to make it driveable in the meantime, count the number of turns to get the tie rod ends off, per side, then install them on the new rack by putting them on using the same amount of rotations. Your alignment will still be off a little bit, but this will allow you to be able to drive the truck for a couple of days before you gett the alignment.

I did my rack in the 88 a while ago too. it was easy. you might want to replace your power steering lines while your down there too. and I just used a tape measure to do my alignment. it was dead on, except I forgot to center the steering wheel first[:@] so I took it to a shop and for $50 they did it.

This is how a shop estimate would look...not hard to get to $800. two hours book labor marked up to 2.5 hours @ $90 and hour. Part mark-up at $380.00. half an hour for outter tie rod removal and install. $15 shop charge fee... Alignment @ $70 charge for 2 quarts of OEM power steering fluid at $10 a quart...plus tax... pretty close to $800...
