Default Trans shifting

Hey all, I'm new here so this is my first post and visit to this forum. I have a 2000 dakota, v6, 2wd, 80,000miles. In the mornings when I first start it up and head to the freeway for work I notice that it wont shift into 3rd from 2nd till I get close to the freeway. The freeway from my house is about a mile away. This happens mainly in the morning, especially when it got really cold in the winter. It also happens when I leave work and didnt use the truck to go to lunch and just let it sit all day. Once it's warmed up, it shifts fine through all gears. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any suggestions?

ya, mine does that too sometimes under the same circumstances (sometimes also feels like a gear isnt fully engaged too, wierd)...if it helps i have a light that comes on now and then too, and when i check the code to turn it off it always says something about some kind of pressure somwhere in the transmission, i guess i havnt cared too much about it though, i figure ill prolly be replacing/upgrading the tranny at some point anywayif i put more money into it

Yeah my Cherokee does that too when it's really cold, I figure there all built under the same roof. My Dakota is now in the fixit stage, but the few times I've had it out it was OK.

in my old chryslers, 727 trans, they would not go into rev. in cold weather if the filter was cloged. what they needed was a fulid change and a new filter. must of it was the cloged filter.

I have the same problem. My truck is from Florida and i moved to michigan and my truck HATES it. All i do is let the truck warm up and its fine. Like superdak05 said, it wont shift till the fluid is warm.... also i woud check your fluid to make sure its where its supposed to be.
