Default K&N CAI noise question-holy cra*

So installed a K&N cold air intake two days ago, and the sound of the engine when I punch it is intense! It sounds like a racecar. A very mellow idle, and normal noise at regular driving (though alot throatier), but man, when I punch it...It sounds like I have a thousand lions roaring under my hood.
Now I can't really say this is a bad thing, but I was just wondering if this is normal. This is my first mod, with more to come. I just don't wantto be pulled over for noise pollution if I have to pass somebody.
BTW, I have checked all of the piping connections, and everything is tight. It's an '03 Quad-cab, 4.7l engine, with about 60k miles on it.
It just blows me away that the engine is soooo much louder at mid-to-full throttle with this minor mod.

I'll tell you tonight what my intake temps are on my drive home and we'll see if the fipk is drawing cold air. There's a difference between a cold air intake and a short ram, short rams are more or less worthless imho.

But yes, the increase in noise is normal. The OEM intake piping has resonating chambers and is designed to eliminate harmonic noise at the expense of turbulent intake air.

Warm air huh? Irealize it's now pulling air mainly from the engine compartment. I was actually wondering about this issue when I installed the kit. The original intake pulls from the front ofthe fender-well, OUTSIDE the engine compartment. So what if I were to modify the K&N system, and run a large tube (i.e. cut a hole in the side of the K&N filter box) and run it to the original location?
My future plans are:
-Fastman throttle body
-Dual exhaust or 3" cat-back, with a flowmaster -haven't decided on the system yet. Open for suggestions. I don't really want to replace the headers, but who knows?
-Performance chip
Any suggestions or observations are welcomed.

If you've got the heat shield, you're going to be pulling air in from under hood, but also from inside the fender where the stock filter does. I didn't get a chance to really run much but I was seeing intake temps in the 110 degree range on a short run up the freeway. I don't know how it compares to the stock filter box, but the other gains come from the smoother intake tract and greater filter area.

i cant compalin about the FIPK, yea it takes in warm air, but i second the gains from less turbalant air flow into the TB and more air intake surface area, look at a stock air box filtre and look where most of the dirt is .. in the front

a quick fix to this "its warm air" arguement is to pull the rubber flap out of the front by your radiator. if your air tube is long enough,(mine is) then you can get the filter right behind the grill. which in all reality will be the coldest air possible(while moving of course).

If my FIPK is subject to the recall I'm going to throw the stock airbox back in until I get the replacement and if that happens, I'll do some more data logging and let you know if the FIPK actually pulls warmer air or not.
