problem with it cuting off while going down the road!!!
hello i was just looking in to buying a dakota it is the magnum v6 it has 216,000 miles he only wants 2gs for it and the only problems that he has with is it cuts off while going down the road but will start right back up no problem anyone have an idea what it could be? if it is easy enuff i will buy it and fix thanks in advance.
I talk to some guys around here and they said that they had the same problem and it was the pick up in the distrbutor ever heard any thing about that? Do you still think it is worth the 2,000 that he wants for it?
DOes this engine have a crank position sensor. my jeep did the same thing and that was the culprit. It would just suddenly shut down for no reason, then usually fire right back up. Couple of times would take a few minutes then could get it to start. On my 4 litre engine it was right by the bell housing on the back of the engine.
na you don't have to wait for it to restart you can just do it right away. The guy replaced the fuel pump already so i just hoping that is the problem

Is there a check engine light? Could be an o2 sensor, bad battery connection, etc... Check all the power cables, distributor etc...
Does it do it at the same time all the time or at random? If It was the distributor wouldn't it miss fire? O2 sensors can cause too much gas or air and speeds.
