front driver side brake, 2000 Dak
Hi, again. On a 2000 Dak that I've recently worked on, the Parking Brake had probably never, and I mean never, been depressed. The original owner, and still current owner, said the she's never used it, at all. She's car person, so I about 99.99% percent believe this. Well, I fixed the original problem that I was working on, but during my work and troubleshooting I had engaged the Parking brake, not knowing that it had never been used. So, while out doing my test driving to ensure that original problem was fixed, the front left brake became really really hot, smoking to beat the band. The brake pedal was stiff and without much movement at all. Could the Parking brake not have dis-engaged fully, or something like that, do to long years of non-use, rust...? I am not a brake expert.

Well the parking brake only engages the rears. Pull off the calipers and steel wool the slide pins, then apply Sil glide or some other decent brake lube on the pins. They are probably locking up. Might as well flush the lines while you're at it.
