Default Airbag Light

My wife said today that the airbag light started blinking on and off when she was driving this morning. I drove it around for awhile and didn't have any problems. Do you guys know what might be the problem? Also, is there a way to turn the passenger air bag off? My Jeep TJ I used to own had a key switch in front of the shifter but I can't find anything on this Durango. It's an 04, if that matters.
thanks

I had this same problem... If you can call it that.

She probibly had something in the passanger seat, say a lunch box, or a heavy jacket, something around 1.5 pounds. The sensor was picking it up and arming and disarming the air bag every time she hit a bump.

You can test this by placing your hand in the middle of the seat, as you drive down the road. the light should come on if you lightly rest your hand on it and off if you apply more pressure, or remove it.

As far as turning it off and on... The passsanger seat has a pressure sensor in it that will arm/disarm it. no manual setting.

thanks for the info. that would explain why it never comes on when I'm driving it and she's with me. She puts her purse in the passenger seat when she's by herself, which explains why the light comes on and off.

Keep an eye on that light I am having the same problem. I notice it every once in a while and I have even took it in to the dealership and said there was no problem. The light goes on and off even when there is nothing in the seat. My opinion is the senser in the seat .

My Durango has had the same issue and has been to the dealer on several occaisions. So far, no fix. It's very sporadic, but still smacks of quality control issues with the electrics. Good luck.
