2004 Durango buy or not?
I am looking at a 2004 Durango slt 4x4 that has 13000 miles priced under $18,000. What kind of gas mileage can I expect? I have not looked at or driven it yet depending on what feed back I get will probably head there Thursday. At a chevy dealer today and they said that I could expect 8-10 miles per gal as they tried to lease me a tahoe. All comments welcomed.
Thanks Matt
Thanks Matt
I just bought my 04 durango SLT in march. Iget 13 around town and probably 18-20 on the highway. Besides the gas mileage, I love it! My brother has a tahoe and he only gets about 15 and 19? Hope this helps!
Hi Pondmom:
13k is really low miles for an 04. Since it is an SLT, it should be equipped pretty well. Run it through KBB and Edmunds pricing guide on line to get some ballpark data. Beware that KBB is known to run a bit higher than real world numbers.
As far as economy, if you are used to a gas sipper or have to drive quite a bit each month, you may be in for a shock. My 01 returns 10-12 for strictly in town driving, and 16-18 on the highway. In my scheme, I seem to average 13-14 combined.
If you plan on towing alot, the Tahoes 5.3 motor (if equipped) will fair better powerwisethan the 4.7 in the Durango.
If you are not going to tow alot or at all, the smaller 4.7 should be a bit better on gas, and the Durangos 4x4 system is full time so you pretty much don't have to fool with it. It is just there working 24/7 for youin all weather whichI like.
You saidpriced under 18k, and since SUVs arenot really moving at the moment you can use this toyour advantage. Maybe to get the price down abit,or bargain for a DC extended warranty. I would venture that this D probably stickered in the 32-36k range when new.
At 13k, this D is likely a one owner which means you are eligible to get the factory 7/70 power train warranty transferred over to you. The will charge $150 to do this, and you must do it within 30 days of purchase.
If you like trucks or SUV's, these Durangos are alot of car for the money. The only downsideis that they are thirsty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 5.7 v8 4x4 SLT witha flowmaster cat-back eshaust and 22" wheels. According to the vehicle's computer I get about 13 mpg around town. Other than the mpg, I love my durango, and so does the wife.
