2006 Durango 4.7L idles rough
I bought a used 2006 Durango (4.7L) with 12000 miles on it about a month ago. When I test drove it, I don't remember noticing any problems with the engine, but now it seems to run a little rough. I've had a couple people who've driven in it mention that too. It accelerates fine and never stalls, but when I stop at a light I notice a slight rumble. It does this when cold or hot and in every gear. I took it to the local Dodge dealer and they said it checks out fine and is like new. So I'm wondering if this is normal or not. Basically, I can feel and hear a slight "rumble" when idling; the antenna shakes; you can see the tachometer needle moving slightly, and you can sometimes see some vibration in the side mirror. It's not a lot, but my Dodge Caravan runs like a clock and doesn't have this problem. If I have time I will take it back to the Dodge dealer and ask the service person to sit in it with me so I can point these things out.
Has anyone else experienced a problem like this or is it normal for the 4.7L engine?
Thanks,
Ed

ED:
My 4.7 sometmes idles a little low rpm wise, (~600) and the idle seems a bit rough when it does. If the A/C is on, the idle is more like 700 and all is well. I think you will find that yours is ok, and since you have plenty of warranty left you will be covered if things go awry.
Speaking of rumble, I really like the exhaust sound that DC put into the stock systems on these Durangos.
Asmile runs across my face when I get into the throttle as it reminds me of my 72 Camaro its small block.

I have the same thing with mine. Brought it in and they told me how it seems everyone in the service department owns or did own a 4.7 with the same symptom! I had to laugh because a month before when they changed the plugs it ran perfectly smooth for the first time ever. Then a week or so later after the computer seemed to relearn it started all over again.
So I told them to reset the computer. It ran smooth as can be for 4 days and started again. I suppose it is a trait of the 4.7 afterall but I am still not excited about it.

common problem with the 05 and up 4.7 is that when they came from the factory the spark plug gap was incorrect on many of the plugs. cyl 1 would be at .040 which they are suppose to be and all the other cyl ranged anywhere from ..035 up to .055 each plug was diff. take them out and double check. also most of us got rid of the stock champions and went with the autolite 3923's cooler plug and it helped out with the stumble and ruff idle. look this up on the gen 3 dak section, we have a list for these idle problems
