Default Transmission acting wierd.

Hey, My mom has a 2004 durango SLT with a HEMI. And when i went to drive it, i put it into reverse, went to hit the gas and it went nowhere, almost as if it was it neutral. so i put it back into park and then back into reverse and then it went as it should. This happened to me twice already when I was in it. But, i dont know if it happened to my mom yet. Also, the shutting off without warning thing happened to it also when i was in it. It doesnt get driven every day if that means anything.

Thanks.

Has the transmission been service ? and when if it had. The hemi motors have a 545RFE transmission and the filters are not installed right you will have some problems. Now if it has not been serviced then you want to have someone remove the valve body and the three seals that goes to low reverse pressure port.

I have had the same problem forward and reverse. I have taken it to the dealer several times only to be told they could not duplicate it. What happened the last time is;
I was in the middle lane at a stop light and the right lane is going to end so i am not going to let the guy in next to me. Light turns green I hammer it and the RPM goes to 4000 and the car engine disengaged from the trans. I let off and it reengaged, so i hammer it again and does the exact same thing. i treid it one more time a little later in my ride home and it did it again. I drove it to the dealer the next day and it was fine, dealer of course can find no defect. I get maybe ten miles to the gallon and I have had the trans serviced and a tune up (all my work is done at the dealer). Mine is an 05 hemi Ltd with tow package. I am just wainting for the trans to take a dump then they will have to replace it.

There is a TSB about this issue. Something to do with a valve in one of the cooler lines not working correctly causing the delayed action you have described. Unlike the trannys of 20 years ago, the pump that moves the fluid around inside does not run if the vehicle is not in gear.

Thanks for the replies. At least i know that this has happened to other durango owners and that they have knowledge of this problem. I was starting to worry cause its my moms and i know how she gets. Ha, the check engine light already came on for like 10 minutes already. Then went off. Thanks again for the replies.

I have an 06 SXT 4WD. We had the oil changed at the dealer about a month and a half ago and while it was in they said it had a recall. they told my my husband they reprogramed something. I am not really sure what. About 2 wks ago we crank it and the little engine computer light comes on. My husband says no big deal so we drive to my mother in laws house and he disconnets the battery cables and resets the computer. It stayed off for awhile that day but when we started driving home it came back on. We are driving down the 4 lane and my husbands kicks it. When he does the engine revs to about 4000 rpms and my truck goes to jerking and quits pulling. He lets out and guns it again and it does the same. As long as you eased into the gas it would not do it. We purchased a warranty with the truck so we carried it to the dealer and they placed the truck on the computer. They told my husband the camshaft sensor was bad and replaced it. We payed the warranty deductible. This is on Tuesday. On Friday we are hooked to the boat and on our way to the river when th eengine light comes on again.No jerking or anything this time. He carried it back to the dealership on Monday and they put it on the computer. They went through two pages of diagnostics and told him everything said replace the catalyic converter. They told him it was covered on the 7/70 powertrain so we wouldn't own anything. Then here is the kicker. They told him if this doesn't fix it they will look futher but we will probabaly have to pay a deductible again.

06SXT:

How many miles are on that Durango. If it is over 36k, then I can see you having to pay a deductible. But if not, then you are being taken advantage of.

What kind of warranty are you talking about\?? Since the 06 models did not come with a warranty beyond the 3/36, you must have purchased something.

It had 46k on it when we purchased it. High mileage for an 06 I know but we were willing to deal with that for the price and also for what they were willing to give for my trade in. We Purchased an extended 2yr 24k mile warranty.The tech told my husband that the catalyic converter was covered by something like the 7/70. I am not real sure. That is what I get for not going. I guess I will find out soon enough though. My parts came in yesterday and he carried it this morning to have them put on. He doesn't really care for the service department at the dealer we bought the truck from so in the future we will use the one were he bought his Ram.Longer drive but better service he says.

He is back with my truck and everything is good so far. I finally figured out that the cat. coverter was covered under the 8/80 emissions required by the government. They replaced plugs too at no charge. We will see how things go.
