Default Transmission problems in a new Durango..

Okay, so we bought a new Dodge Durango for me at the beginning of August.
I drove the vehicle for about a week when I noticed something strange going on with the transmission. Several times when I put the vehicle in reverse and started to back out of the driveway, the vehicle just stopped. I looked down at the gear shift thing and there's no little square over the 'r' for reverse. It showed that I wasn't in any gear at all. This happened a few more times at home and at our community pool.

I finally told my husband. He went grocery shopping with me and tried to back the vehicle into our driveway so that we could unload the groceries. Sure enough, the vehicle gave a jerk and then just stopped. He looked down and there was no indicator that he was in reverse or any other gear. He had to put it back into reverse and finished backing it up the driveway.

We scheduled an appointment to take it in to Dodge where we bought it. He told the service guy about it slipping out of reverse and the guy said no way, that doesn't happen and didn't believe him. As a woman taking a vehicle in for service, I'm used to being treated this way but my husband is not. He was very mad. The service department called him later and said some tube was missing from inside the transmission from when it was installed during the manufacturing process. They would have to order it and it would be three days before they got the parts.

Got the Durango back last Thursday night, drove it Friday with no problems. Saturday I parked in our driveway but I wasn't far enough over to leave my husband enough room for his truck. I put it in reverse, looked behind me as I started to back out of the driveway and sure enough it did it again. I felt the vehicle stop, looked at the gear indicator and I wasn't in reverse anymore. It didn't show that I was in any gear at all. I put it back into reverse and finished backing out of the driveway.

Yesterday I was at Super Target and it did it again.

Dh calledDodge and told them it wasn't fixed. They're stumped as to what it could be. They thought maybe it could be a torque converter (?) but want me to go in and drive it with them so they can see what's happening. I'm not comfortable doing that and frankly don't have time. Dh declined and made arrangements to drop it off Saturday morning. We haven't even made the first payment on this vehicle yet! Any ideas what the problem could be? I feel like they can't find the problem so they're trying to say it's "operator error." I drive for a living so I know how to put a vehicle in reverse and I know when it's slipping.

Thanks in advance!

If the D is brand new, take it back and let them keep it until it is fixed. One more issue related to the backup, you have a lemon on your hands and by most state laws you can walk away from it and get a new one. Let the stealer know that YOU know your lemon law rights and you may be surprised on the sudden repairs you get.

As for me, I would also call DCX customer support and get out of the D now while you can and before payment #1.

Take you durango to the dealer and have them perform TSB 18-035-07 flash. Transmission defaults to neutral.

What is surprising is the fact that when you buy a new car you should not have any issues for at least 2 years. As any proffessional company each unit must be inspected before ok status is stamped on. It is really frustrating when a new car starts to have problems, you stat to think did I do the right thing buying this Durango.
