Default 1st time pad/rotor replacement advice needed.

First I would like to say hello to everyone since this is my first post on these forums

Ok, I have an '05 with 14300miles and the brake sensors are screeching like crazy, which is driving me insane[sm=outcold.gif]
So I know they will have to be replaced very soon. I have rear disc brakes also. As you can see I don't do much mileage so here is my question:

Do I just get OEM pads from the dealer?
or
Get after market pads (or maybe both pads&rotors). Would it be worth it for me?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Just do the pads! Either HAWK or Akebono are supposed to be very good. The rotors can't be worn after that mileage.

mine is an 05 with 52000 and origianal brakes. how the heck can you need brakes after 14K miles? and of your brakes are screeching like crazy you may need new rotors if dont take care of it right away. that noise you are hearing is the wear indicator rubbing on your rotor.

Quality after market pads are fine. I'd go with Napa's AE metallics. P/N is AE7984M. OTC price should be about $65. If the rotors have a substantial lip or are grooved, turn or replace them. Napa premium rotors for your truck will run about $60/ea. Don't buy cheapies, or you'll get a pulsation.

Either HAWK or Akebono are supposed to be very good
No experience with Hawk. Ake ceramicsare great for cars, but I stay away from ceramics on SUVs and trucks. Metallics or severe duties on anything over about 4,500 lbs.

I just replaced mine at the dealer front and rear for about $400. I have 64k miles. You should take it in and see if there is a defect and warranty issue withthe little mileage that you have.

I had a brake pulsation at 16,000 on my Durango and I took it to the dealer. They were not going to cover it under warranty, until I explained to them that there is a law in NY state that says all brakes must be warrantied to 17,000. They replaced all four rotors and pads. Check with the dealer. I believe the basic warranty goes to 15,000 for brakes. If you have a pulsation, use that as your complaint. Worn pads technically aren't warranty, but an out-of-spec rotor is. There is a bulletin that says to machine or replace the rotors and replace the pads, so this is the repair procedure they will likely follow.

Let me know how you make out.

Jeff
