Default 2004 durango, new owner

Hi people, Great web site. Well I just bought a 2004 durango hemi with 43000 miles. WOW what a awesom creation. I came from a 93 work van into a great Dodge rango. What a difference. Heres my questions?
1. The vehicle rides great. When I go over bumps in the road even man hole covers I feel a cluncking in the front end. It i hit it with the right i feel it in the right or left I feel it in the left side. I took it by a friends garage and we popped it on the lift . He gave it a very good full under body inspection and he said it was tight as far as he could see. What could this sound be , possibly under the hood? Maybe some of you folks have any ideas....
2. My stereo cd doesnt work it has the 6 cd set up and if i press mode it wont change to cd. also if you hit the eject button even holding it 15 seconds it doesnt do nothing. If I try to install a cd it just hits something solid while trying to load. Has any body had any similar problems?
3. Warranty, besides a 2 month warranty from the car lot What about from Dodge warranty. Is there anything left in terms of warranty. How do I go about finding out? Well this is a great site with a ton of happy dodge owners and Iam looking forward to making my Durango one of the nicest in this area. Time to start working some overtime because i have big plans for my "D"

I'm not sure for the CD player issue but i will look around. As for the the warranty they had 3/36 Factory Warranty7/70 Powertrain Warranty7/100 Powertrain Warranty8/80 Certified Powertrain Warranty availible @ purchase if im correct, and to my knowledge that would have to be transfered through documentation into your name to be valid but dont quote me. You can Still purchase an after market warranty from chrysler if you would like one.Im not familiar with the front end components on your 04 but i can throw up some suggestions so as you are not left out in the dark. Im taking in consideration that the mechanic checked the ball joints, control arms, tie rod ends, and the sway bar bushings (Normally an issue like this would be the sway bar links). Did he inspect the shocks in the front end? Theres been issue pertaining to a clunk/etc that was hard to diagnose on other types of vehicles but this is what i took from that and figure it is worth a try seeing it does not involve any major diagnotic measures. "turn the steering wheel quickly, 90 degrees, to the left and back to the right while the transmission is In park and the engine is at idle. If a popping or clunk type sound is heard"

I get the same noise under my '04 Durango as well, but I haven't had a chance to climb under and take a look. So I'd be interested in hearing a few ideas as to what it may be.

As for the Warranty, the 7/70 is for the first owner of the vehicle and can be transferred to the second owner of the truck for a fee. I think it is $100. The third owner get nothing.

Welcome,
Not too sure on the clunking noise but you may have something stuck in your cd player. If you bought it used the previous owner may have gotten a disk stuck in it. I had that happen with a disk I made that had one of the do it yourself labels that was too thick and caused it to jam. When you hit the eject button does the motor sound like it's trying to eject or does it do nothing at all? I talked to some some guys that work at Car Tunes here in Detroit and they said that kids like to stick things in therethat don't belong, primarily loose change. Not sure how to pull theradio too find out though, sorry. Hope you find the noise.

GTM:

04 and 05 Durangos came with a bumper to bumper 3/36 warranty as well as a 7/70 powertrain warranty. As long as you are the 2nd owner, you can go to a Dodge dealer and pay the $150 xfer fee to have the remainder of the 7/70 put into your name.

You might also consider getting a factory backed extended warranty through Chrysler that can upgrade your powertrain warranty pretty much back to bumper to bumper for the term you select.

As we all know, a warranty is more or less an insurance policy that you may get your money back out of, or not. You are paying for peace of mind in any case.

Good luck with your decision. Don

Update on the '04 Durango Warranty.

I brought my D in for service today thinking, as the 3rd owner of the truck, that I had no warranty coverage from the factory.

When I picked up the truck I was told that the repair was covered by the 7/70 factory warranty with a $100 deductable.

When I inquired about Chryslers transferance of the 7/70 from owner to owner, the service guy told me that the factory warranty goes with the vehicle not the owner, and there is no need to transfer it or pay a free to have it transferred. I was pleasantly surprised by that. He then went over the different coverages, what automatically came the the truck, and when they expired.

Air Conditioning 3yr/36000
Emissions 3yr/360000
Corrosion 5yr/60000
Roadside Assist 3yr/36
Drivetrain 7yr/70000

So I am not quite sure why all the info found on the Chrysler home page indicates that it factory warranty is only good through the second owner via a transfer. That is not the case.

BS:

Not to be contrary, but either this guy is doing you a favor, or does not know from whence he speaks. EverythingI have seen and read indicates (including the owners manuals) that for the 2003-2005 chrysler vehicles, the 7/70 powertrain warranty applies to the 1st owner no charge, and the second owner must pay $150 xfer fee to have the coverage put into their name. There is no coverage available for 3rd and subsequent owners.

It is true though that the 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty goes with the vehicle, not the owner.

Count youself lucky. Could it be possible that the previous owner purchased an extended Chrysler warranty that they transferred to you??

Also, was this a "Certified" vehicle?? If so, they can and probably did build in some type oa warranty as part of the deal.

Don

Wow!!

Jan. 3, 08 I brought a 2004 Durango ST 2WD that was Dodge/Dealer certified with 8/80000 miles engine/powertrain and some other things included! I called Chrysler today to see what exactly was a certified vehicle and was told that the 3 year was up the 7 year was changed since I brought a certified truck I was covered and was included in the purchased price! I was under the impression that I to would have to spend the $150.00 for transfer but was told buy Chrysler HQ that 8-80000 was all that I needed and was good to go! With that $150.00 I was gonna spend I get some goodies for my baby=Durango!
