2004 Durango Hemi Engine Failure
Well I have a 2007 Durango, 4.7l two weeks old to me, 83 miles on it.built in may of07.I join this forum, and all I hear are blown engines, shutting off for no reason. should I have kept my 06 Ram.
Tell me more about this "shutting off" thing. Mine is an 05 Hemi, with 40k on it. It's done it 3 times. I took it to the dealer each time and they can't "fix" it. did they ever resolve your problem? They haven't done squat with mine except tell me that there aren't any codes and they can't duplicate it. of course they can't duplicate it, it's done it 3 times in 2 years.... help!!!!!
Hi guys. Sorry I haven't replied, but the "typical hater post" kinda made me mad. Anyways, heres an update. There's only a limited amount od dealers in PR, so I started calling around. I found a dealer a few hours from home and decided to go there. They told me that yes, this is been happening to Hemi D's and he showed me one that they were currently working on. Same thing, broken spring, destroyed engine. I called the biggest Chrysler dealer in PR which in San Juan, and explained what was happening in my home town. They sent a mechanic to look the truck over and, after several weeks of waiting, he gave the go ahead to fix my dad's D. I don't understand why people say this is weird. Please, go to the NHTSA, there's at least 100 reports of these failures there. It started with the Hemi Rams in 03. For those who want to look, it's TSB 02021. The first year that the Hemi was put in the D was 04. IT"S THE SAME ENGINE. Now those engines are getting mileage on them and this is what happens. The dangerous thing about them is the shutting off problem. The dealer said they received a bulleting saying the ECU has to be reflashed to correct this. It's an idle problem since it never dies under acceleration. When the engine is fixed, they will correct this. Regardless, as soon as it's fixed, it's gone. Hope this helps some people who are not blind fanboys and care about what vehicle they put their family in. Feel free to email me or pm me with any questions. Take care.
Now see, that is good info. With only 7 posts to your credit, you have to understand how statistically you fell in lock step with typical do-no-gooders.
Keep in mind, 100 failures over millions of motors is probably well within MTBF. That is why I think it is a bit of overkill. With that said, if I were you and really had an issue, I'd be pissed too... for sure! The Magnum, 300C, Ram, Durango, Challenger and Charger all have the same 6.1L HEMI motor. Are there a few issues, probably... that's why the 6.4L is on the way out soon as the 6.1L replacement.
I am honestly glad to see you are making headway on it. Good luck.

Great to hear you are making progress. I had not caught the fact that you are down in PR in your earlier posts.
Maybe I am glad could not get the Hemi after all
