2004 Durango Hemi Engine Failure
Evening folks. My old man bought a brand new D in 04 (absolutetly 0 miles). The D has 32,244 miles on it and the engine has blown up. After multiple trips to the dealer for ball joint issues, engine stalling, horn constantly on etc.... the engine now fails at 32k. This is truly ridiculous. He gave me a Durango R/T last year that had tranny probs and he didn't want to deal with it any more. Now, his new truck fails too. I got rid of my R/t after 2k + in tranny repairs and still slipped. Dealer says it won't reapair it because supposedly the engine was overheated and that caused the failure. Upon further inspection by both myself and my trusted mechanic, we found one of the valves on the #7 piston let go and it destroyed the engine. No DTC recorded or lights ever came on saying that the truck was hot. Besides, my old man is a gearhead. We're still fighting with the dealer but, since there's no TSB for the D on this problem (there is on the Ram) they seem to not care. Any advice? Besides never buying another Dodge product?
Besides my 2k R/T and my old man's 04 Hemi D, he also has an 04 Dakota Q cab thats on it's 2nd engine (4.7), second diff, 4th brake booster...etc... I really think the dealership here is crap. These vehicles can't be this bad...

just get 5 or 6 little kids 2 to 5 years. go to an icecream store get lots of icecream for each kid. take them to the showroom of the dealer. tell the manger that if they dont fix the dodge you will turn the kids loose on the new dodges. i would love to see his face.

LOL! Jk, I know what you mean.
BS.
If it is 4 years old, the original owner and that type of miles, it's still covered under warranty, even federal warranty.
Either the dealer or someone else is full of sh**. Sounds like a typical hater post to me.

Anyways, we are taking the dealer to court. Truck has 32k miles and they don't want to fix it, plain and simple. First, they asked us 5500 for a new engine. Now, the called earlier in the week and said that they would pay half (2750) if we put the other half. Tired of messing with these people. I've read tons of reports already on NHTSA website about this and about the other serious problems with the truck (engine cutting off when driving). Just too many problems for a vehicle with low mileage and pampered. Call me a hater all you want dude, but call me when it's YOUR mom in the durango, turning a corner and the engine shuts off inadvertedly with my brothers in it and almost smacking into a lightpole like it did to my stepmom.
First, if you are legit then that's fine. Simply go to another dealer or call Chrysler directly. Court? Lawsuits? Split costs? WTF! Go elsewhere already, IT'S STILL UNDER WARRANTY for Pete's sake.
However.... from a forum regular's perspective... you have 6 posts total, write a book about never buying a Dodge again, continue to say the same in your latest post response and miss the obvious that *IF* there were the tons of engine failures like you talk about... then *SOMEWHERE* all that data would show up, just perhaps it would all be RIGHT HERE on a forum SPECIFICALLY regarding Durangos and then those Durango owners and not stepmoms LIKE ME who wrench on, live with, drive daily, research hourly, help others on their issue and simply love their Durangos would have heard a thing or two about these surefire COMMON FAILURES? I don't even want to go into how a possible loss of power with a failed motor could have possibly impacted any drivability issues regarding steering and someone's inability to stay away from light poles. Instead, all you have provided is TEXTBOOK Durango and Dodge hater speak in the TEXTBOOK Durango and Dodge hater fashion.
If it looks, walks and quacks like a duck...
Sorry dude.

Ok... so the exact same thing happened to my 04 Durango. I took it into the dealer last year to get its 30K mile oil change and service and was called later that day and told that the engine blew while it was idling in the garage. Same deal valve dropped, cracked the piston, and total destruction from there. It was under warrantee and they replaced the engine after waiting close to two months for delivery of the new parts. Still have the Durango today and it runs great. Waiting until my75K mile warrantee runs out and it is gone!

I have to wonder why you guys are having catastrophic failures in your vehicles. This is VERY odd. I have to wonder about your driving habits.
