Default Royal Purple

I have 102K on my 05 Durango. I am looking to milk all of the MPG and overall mileage (still have 3yrs to pay)that I can. I have always used 10W30 and 5W20 in my truck. Is it worth a change now? Let me know your thoughts.

You don't say which motor you have. IMO it is good to run the synthetics especially if you live in the colder climates llike I do here in Ohio.

I run the M1 5w30 in my 4.7, and the RP gear oil in my diffs. While I can not claim any mpg increase, I have not had any issues yet with either component. When I pulled the M1 from the diffs at 60k to install the RP,it looked and smelled like new. However, the oem dino stuff I drained out at 30k looked and smelled like ransid pancake syrup.

Sorry, I have a HEMI. I am just worried that I am going to start bleeding oil.

Whenever you have a high mileage vehicle you run the risk of a full synthetic bleeding. I ran Mobil 1 full synthetic on my 04 Hemi Durango and I have almost 100k on it and have not had any leakage.I'd give it a shot.

Mr N:

How about these apples?? Go to your local walmart, and pick up a couple of 5 quart jugs of the Ford semi synthetic 5w20. They go for ~10 a jug. That way, you are getting the best of both worlds.

Since you have no warranty to deal with, why not give it a try??

So I put in Royal Purple today. I currently have 103144 on the odometer. I will update in the next few days. I'm going to keep a log and see if it does anything.

Mileage 103932 and about 50 gallons of gas used(2 and 1/2 tanks, no more the 20gal per fill up). approx 15.76 mpg so far overhead states 17.2mpg(started at 12.9 when I reset after oil change). Majority highway (80%)driving at 80 to 85mph - hope no cops are reading this. I should have another thousand miles by next wednesday, hopefully I can see some improvement.

Oh, btw, doesn't seem to run any better. Perhaps I expect to much out of my D with 104K on it.

at 105K on the dot. Burned 90 (1854mi)gals since original post = 20.6 mpg. Trip comp reads an avg of 17.6, but we all know how accurate that is. I will keep posting info if anyone cares. If not, I will stop.
