Default Adding coolant : Need a little advice from the 4.7 crowd

I have an 05 ST with the 4.7 that appears to be in need of some coolant. The bottle dipstick shows one tick above the add mark when hot and curiously enough only slightly lower when the motor is cold, but when I crack the radiator cap to check, the radiator coolant level is down out of the neck of the radiator but still a 1/2" above the first row of fins. Does the HOAT really expand that much ???
The motor is not overheating , the temp gauge is rock solid where it's always been , there is no signs of external leaking (the bottom the car and engine compartmentare clean as the wind driven snow). Nothing goofy in the oil or tranny fluid either, so I'm going to try to top off the cooling system and watch it for a little while before I involve the dealer (31 K but out of initial warranty on time, 7/70 isstill intact though). might just be attrition over time or a faulty radiator cap but ...????

My question is this.

Since it appears that I'm down coolant either way , what's the best way to add it back in? Follow the manual and add it to the bottlesomewhere near the full mark when the motor is up to temp and pressure?

or when cold, fill the radiator to the top of the neck and check the level in the bottle when hot ... I don't neccesarily want to add it to the bottle if there's air in the top of the radiator because it'll take forever to add itself back in...

but also don't want to (over?)fill the radiator to theneck andhaveitboil out of the bottle ...

I know what I'd do with a straight ethelyene glycol system (add it the top of the neck and watch the bottle when it heats up) ,but am not sure with the HOAT stuff.

Anbody got an opinion for me ?

Thanks

Ron

You will notice that when you take off the cap there is a plastic dip stick inside there. It has a bunch of small holes starting at the bottom going up in a row. Look at those holes and see where the fluid stops(holes will be full). Add enough destilled water/coolant until the top 1 or 2 holes on the dipstick is full.
