UA:

Sounds like you are making a very unequal comparison. Which engine does your D have?? Remember that the Durango weighs in around 5000 pounds, and that every extra 100 pounds knocks off roughly .1 second in the quarter mile.

Get back with the specs on your D and your Charger.

Default durango dual exhaust

anyone ever installed a dual exhaust on a 2nd gen durango? as i see it there is no way to pass a true dual set of pipes through/past the rear axle; typical to many US trucks. is that true? what about port out the sides, just ahead of the rear wheel wells, and maybe tied to the running board.

any one ever seen this done?

If you really want duals on your D, I believe it can be done. Some folks have a set up that allows the spare tire to remain, and others require it to be removed.

You do not say which motor your D has, but I will assume that since you mentioned the Charger, that they both have the Hemi.

Comparing your D to the Charger is like comparing apples to oranges. Both vehicles were designed to perform totally different jobs.

The hp to weight ratio is much better on the Charger as well as its aerodynamics.

What are you wanting to accomplish?? With enough money, just about any goal can be attained, but at some point the return on your investment is quite small for the large sums of money that can be required.

There are alot of knowledgeable folks on this forum who can help you once they know what you want to do.

You can't compare your Durango to your Charger man.

Duals can be done on a Durango very easily without having to remove your spare.Any qualified exhaust shop can accommodate you.

Dual exhaus isn't going to give you that much of a power increase. Cut the cat, install headers, CAI and maybe a programmer. There's power there just have to find it.

thanks for the feedback.

what i want to do is install duals, and thanks for the data on the feasibility.

can anyone describe the routing over the axle on the drivers side, while maintaining the spare? anyone have an photos of a good routing.

I installed a custom exhaust on mine (I own an exhaust shop)

Now in kit form I know Corsa and Flowmaster do it but they run the pipes side by side to the right of the vehicle (not exactly the dual exhaust look everyone wants)

Problem with the 2nd D's is the rear end. The panhard system they run articulates almost to the floor. I had HUGE problems getting the sway bar not to hit. I ran 2 1/2 almost to the floor and as far over the left as I could and still hits on sharp bumps like in parking lots....

I ended up flattening the pipe and finally that worked. Doesn't look the greatest from underneath but exterior is beautiful.

Ive done this mod twice now and it DOES include removing the spare tire especially if you want chrome tipped mufflers out back.

Note: if you do this use the mufflers out back and one more small one midship this takes out the resonance and sounds great.

thanks two tone.

i might just take the easy way out and run two pipes on the right. i have to actually get under the car to see what i have to work through. some of the older cars i have worked on and added duals to had the same problem (68 deville) and i had to do the trick as you mentioned to hang to the right, very near the frame.

once i get over the axle on the right, how hard is it to get the left pipe back to the left? can i leave the spare as i would prefer, and still route the pipe?

i was thinking of exhaust tips out the sides laterally behind each tire/wheel well. do you see a problem with this? what is the advantage of running straight out the back. i am in a dry climate, so corrosion from tire spray is not a problem.

also, what are some of the aspen options?

thanks for all the helpful posting.

I wasn't able to get the muffler RIGHT behind the tires but close.

I found there was just no way of routing the pipes over to the left with the spare. BUT I didn't have a spare to start with anyways as Im on 20's. If you pull it off I'd love to see pictures!!

I don't see any advantage or disadvantage with the angles of the muffler tips. SUV's are cab over pipe no matter what you do so the pipe direction is really irrelevant, just personal preference. With trucks the direction can make a difference as far as sound in the cab.

As far as the Aspen parts? Im using the window sill's, Mirrors, and Door Handles (custom painted buckets) I'd like to get the roof rack but mucho de'niro for me right now. The rims are off a Ram and the Hood Scoop is off the Ram Sport....I'll get you guys some pictures soon!
