Just an update on my A/C problem...I took my 04 limited to the dealer for the 9000 mile oil change, and told them about the A/C cutting off-(the compressor stops working),and they say they found the problem...an inline fuse in the starting and charging circuit under the hood in a black box of fuses was installed crooked at the factory. They removed it and re-installed it straight, and SAY I should not have any more problems with it...It also caused my radio to not work once,
and they said the wipers won't work on some others from the same problem. HOPEFULLY It's fixed!!

I had the radio and A/C problem on my '04 Hemi Limited. A/C blows out warm air when the car starts, especially when the temperature is over 90 degrees. When I shut the car and restart it, the A/C works fine, and the dealer said he could not reproduce the problem.

I had the same problem with the radio, which the dealer replaced under warantee. The A/C problem happens 1-2 times a week, the radio happened ~2x a month.

ORIGINAL: njdurango r/t

I have 02 durango r/t with same problem...and what i/ve found that it works when the steering wheel is tilted all the way done....when this happens the front works...but rear doesnt...so there must be a problem with a harness..(pinched wire perhaps) within the steering column. i have just found this recently and havent been able to locate it exactly....but give it a shoot. i will be working on this problem next week when i finally got some days off and will post on any findings.

Hey NJDurango does it blow a fuse? My 02 Durango blows the fuse for the A/C that is in the fuse box in the engine compartment and its driving me nuts. Way too hot here in SoCal valley to not have A/C.

I purchased my 04 Limited Hemi in January 04 and I had the same A/C trouble and the radio shutting off about two weeks after I purchased it.
I pull all of the relays and fuses under the hood and re-seated them and I have not had any trouble sence then. I did find one relay just sitting in the socket so I thought I would check all of them.

I have an 04 Durango and a Hemi. It has been through all the TSBs, and it still happens. Most of the TSBs say that this is a primary cause when your city driving. The AC will get cold when you are doing 70mph down the highway. This is the third time this has happened, I am tired of it. I only have 20K miles on mine, and I live in central Texas. I can't have a marginally working AC system for my wife and kids in 100+ weather.

I have an '04 Durango Limited Hemi (35,000 miles) with the same problem for the last 2 summers. I live in Atlanta, and at 90+ degrees, the A/C blows warm air about 3-4 times a week, especially when the engine is hot. If I restart the engine, the A/C kicks in perfectly. And guess what, the dealer can't find the problem... even though this appears to be the most common posting pertaining to 04 Durangos.

CRAP! I'm not the only one, huh? I was hoping it was just me, coz maybe they could fix it.

Well I just bought my '04 Limited Hemi last month. It was over 100 for many many days here in Dallas this summer. On those days was when I noticed the air struggling, then failing to come on at all. I went to get the kids, A/C came on, then kind of petered out. Then upon leaving the school, it didn't come on at all... and it was 105 degrees outside. What the heck?

Took it to my friendly Carmax, where I bought it. They sent it to the dealer. Dealer has "addressed the A/C issue" and are completely replacing the horribly squealing sunroof. I'm supposed to get it back today, which is what they've been saying for a few days now. I can't wait to see what exactly the "addressed" on the A/C issue. I may be replacing this vehicle come Spring. I can't deal with a no A/C Texas summer. Shoot, the fact that the A/C kept giving out in our old, jalopy Volvo, is the REASON we started shopping for another car!!!!

Man, it's not my year.

Mutt.

I realize I'm responding to myself, but maybe others are looking for info.

Dodge dealer recharged the A/C. Not the problem. It was 94 degrees out when I picked it up yesterday. The air never came on the whole ride home. I was going to take it straight back, but I've got kids to pick up and a hundred other things to do, besides chasing this damn problem around.

A/C worked this morning, taking the kids to school. Of course, it was only about 74 degrees out, and it wasn't really necessary. This is clearly an electrical, sensor problem. I noticed that at hot outside temperatures the thermostat indicates incorrectly. Not sure AT ALL if thesse are related, but if the outside temps ain't workin', maybe the inside sensors thought it was 50 degrees in the car.

Piece of crap.
