Default A/C Problems

Hi All,
I am a newbie, first post.
Overall I am very impressed with my Durango, except for one thing, the A/C. Living here in the desert of Las Vegas, when I needed the A/C the most (115+ degrees) it didn't work. Thru this past summer I took it in several times to check the A/C, first few time the service mgr. said "can't find anything wrong." Then came the "flashes" for the PCM, still the A/C would go out, the compressor wouldn't engage.
While I was at the dealership on a couple ocassions others were coming in with the same problem.
Anybody else out there had the same problem?
Also, are there any technicians here that have heard of a fix?
Thanx

I have over 36 miles and have never had a problem with the AC. I live in San Antonio and it gets pretty hot here. I talked to a lady at the dodge dealership last week that has all kinds of electrical problems with her Durango that she bought in August. Im curious, is your's a HEMI? Do you ahve rear A/C? I wonder if they are made in different places. I bought mine last Januaryand so far have had zero problems.

Look in the main durango section, there were several threads about the AC on 04 models...the 2nd generation section didn't exist when those threads were started.

I've had mine almost a year now and no problems with the AC

Yes I have the Hemi & rear air. They, the dealership, told me it was a problem with the PCM. When the PCM gets too hot it shuts down the circut for the compressor, blowers work but the compressor wont engage. I bought it in May & have 13K miles on it.
Thanx

That sounds kinda stupid.

I'm a new owner of a 2005 Durango SLT. I'm having a problem with my AC that when you leave it on for a while the FRONT Vents seem to stop having air come out of them. So far this has only happened with the AC (tested heat did the same). The rear vents are blowing cool air fine when this happens. I have found that if you turn off the Fan Switch for a while and then turn it back on that it works just fine. Note I do not have any climate control features on this.

Vehicle has less than 2k on it. Anyone having this issue

Well, I checked the Michell On Demand software at work and there have been no bulletins on A/C listed there. Granted, it isn't always completely current, so I'll check back shortly.

The PCM overheat sounds like BS to me.... Computers usually either work or they don't.

I have 02 durango r/t with same problem...and what i/ve found that it works when the steering wheel is tilted all the way done....when this happens the front works...but rear doesnt...so there must be a problem with a harness..(pinched wire perhaps) within the steering column. i have just found this recently and havent been able to locate it exactly....but give it a shoot. i will be working on this problem next week when i finally got some days off and will post on any findings.

I have a hemi limited with dual air and climate control,2004 model Durango, and the air conditioning cuts off on mine, too.
The blower and doors all work just fine, but the compressor is not on for the front or rear air.If I turn the car off and wait a few minutes, then re-start the car,it works just fine again. This has only happened twice, and the radio has done the same sort of thing-went black for the entire time engine was on-shut car off-re-start then OK again-happened once.
Possibly the keyswitch???? Took it to the Dodge dealer and of course it all worked just fine for them!!! HELP!
