Default crinkling sound got louder under hood or near left front tire

05 Durango upon startup you hear a small clicking or crinkling sound, when you hit the gas it's gets a little louder but after about 15 seconds disappears completely.
Only does it when the engine is cold.
I can turn off the vehicle and start it back up and it sounds fine.
Sounds to me like it is from the left front wheel.
sounds like leaves russling, sometimes.
Any ideas what this might be?

You have a 4.7l I am guessing.

Thus...

I'd say you have a broken manifold bolt. Time to get it fixed.

I was wondering that, since I saw everyone else with the same issue.

Is it any certain bolt or is it random?

I figure if it is happening to many, it would be the same bolt.
How often does this really happen.

I am lucky enough I have a 7/75 paid for warranty, and only 62,000 miles on it.
So in it goes to the shop.
I will let you know if this was the problem.

Thanks,..

Usually one of the 2 rear bolts but can be any of them. Let us know how it works out.

Good luck with the repair.

I have to agree on the manifold bolt.

Thanks, Indy, for your help on my thread, by the way.

Mine is making what I call a "whallop" at startup, but it goes away after a few minutes. Same location. I checked down there, and sure enough: it was a manifold bolt. Maybe more than one. I still have to dig into it

Took it in, they confirmed driver side bolt broken.

replaced both sides and gaskets because one one loose but not broken, and just took the precaution.

I had an extended Warranty I bought a long while back, it was cheap 7/75 with $100 deductable, i'm not complaining.

But will there be a TSB or recall on this?

Glad I could help (both of you) with the right call right up front. And really glad we caught it before your warranty was up!

No recall for sure and no TSB that I am aware of. It is just a failure issue. And with your truck being built pre Chrysler-bankruptcy, anything found now isn't going to get any traction after the bankruptcy has released them of tons of past liability. But thats another story entirely.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, I couldn't figure it out, thought it was some sort of leak making the noise. Just couldn't pinpont it.
I didn't have to explain to the techs either, I just said, clicking sound when cold, and he jumped in and said "yep, we know what it is"
The Durango sounds much better now.
