Default Intermittent Security Issue?

I have a 2006 Dodge Durango that has been working great until about a week ago. Last week, I got in the car and tried to start it. It started for a few seconds and then died. Tried again and it started right up. Decided it was a fluke and kept driving as normal. This happened again later in the week. This time I noticed that the security light was on and staying on before I tried to start the engine (short drive to school to pick up kids - noticed light did not go off. stopped car at school - tried to start it up and it died - second try started right up) hmmm....wondered if we had a security problem. My keyless entry key has been non functional for about a year (the battery prongs broke and came loose - was unable to fix it and at the quoted price of $250 for new key and programming decided to unlock the doors manually) We live in a small town and generally leave the car unlocked anyway. Yesterday tried to start car at grocery store (had started and stopped several times during the day with no problems) and car started then died. Repeated this process 2-3 times and then the car would not even turn over. Had all lights and power worked but no engine turnover. Got out of the car and decided to try it one more time before calling for a tow and it started right up. AAAAH. This morning after dropping kids and husband off at school/work, car starts and security light is on. Drives fine all the way home, then I turn the engine off and try to restart ....turns over and dies ....repeat 2-3 times...walk away ....30 min later repeat the process.....30 later turn over and starts up ... started up fine 4 more times after that. This has never happened to my husband who uses the spare key when he drives so I'm assuming that it probably has something to do with either my key or the security system . We live in a rural area without nearby dodge dealerships so any help would be appreciated I'm not sure where to even start since its intermittent and we don't know what to do to recreate the problem

I would assume that it has to do with the key not responding to the security system. There was a thread about fixing the key fob, but for some reason I can not find it now (in the 'search' feature). I will check later on the search,

Here is one thread about the key fob repairs:

https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...ired-40-a.html

There is a search icon in the black menu bar at the top. Type in "key fob" or "key repair" for other threads. Hopefully this solves your problem,
