Unhappy Battery, radio, fuse issue

Battery died in wife's 2005 durango. (Clicking noise when trying to start). Someone tried to jump start her before I got there and apparently hooked the cables up backward at first. The jump didn't work so I replaced her battery and all was fine except that now her radio has no volume. I looked at the amplifier fuse (25A mini) and it was blown. As soon as I put a new one in it sparks at the fuse box and blows the fuse immediately. Any suggestions?

You jumped the battery backwards? You have fried many components unfortunately. You are lucky it runs at all. The computer is very voltage sensitive.

Suggestions? Take it to an electrical shop, tell them what you did and let them give t a great once over. No telling what they will find. With so many things in the truck (all modern vehicles) ran off of the electronics, you could have a dangerous vehicle you are driving with something critical (brake lights, controllers, computer, speedo, etc) on the verge of failing too.

Small mistake = big problem. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Thanks for your input and reply but I wasn't the one who hooked it up backwards as I clearly stated. A "good" citizen trying to help her before I got there did it.

Gotcha. Didn't mean "you" and much as "your situation". Nevertheless, not a good thing at all. Get an electrical pro shop to look everything over. Not the dealer. They would be lost. If you don't, you may end up stranded or worse. Shorts = fire.

Good luck!
