05 Durango wont start
Hello folks, been a little while but I am back with a little problem. My wife drove her 05 durango to work this morning....parked it and went in to work. Then this afternoon when she came out to go to lunch it would not start.....it will turn over and fire, but not start.
After trying persistantly for several minutes she gave up and called me. I went and took a look at it to no avail. After attempting a few times i began to smell gas very strongly. It was flooded. I first checked all the fuses under the hood and in the cab, they all looked good. Although i didnt not check with a voltmeter. I then pulled the positive terminal wire off and left it off for 15 mintues, reconnected it and tried again. Still wouldnt start.
I called the local dodge service shop to see if I could speak to a mechanic, but none was available. The service lady ask me what the problem was.....I told her and she said "oh yeah, we have had that happen a few time......depress the gas pedal all the way down and try starting it, it should start and run very rough for several minutes and then smooth out....sounds like it is just flooded".
I tried this and actually got it to start and fun for 4-5 minutes as long as I help the gas pedal completely down. It ran VERY rough....and eventually died......I had to come back to work so I had my wife take my truck and drop me back off. It still sitting @ her work.......any ideas guys? Why might it have flooded in the first place???

A little update : After letting it sit for approx 6 house, I returned to tow the durango back to the house. I attempted to start it again and it sputtered a......fired up and ran. I kept it running, drove it home and put a can of Sea Foam thru it. Then went out and drove 20 mile down the highway, stopped and got out to look under the hood. All looked well, then I to the rear of the vehicle and could smell a burnt smell from around the exhaust. I then drove 20 miles back home....got out and could no longer smell the burnt smell. I then shut it off and tried to start it again......it fired right up.
I tried this a couple times with it starting right away each time.....I am going to go ahead and change the spark plugs tomorrow morning just in case.......The best thing I can figure is that an injector might have stuck open and while I was fooling with it over the noon hour i somehow got it unstuck......and while letting it sit for 6 hours it un flooded.
Best guess I have.....Anyone else have any other suggestions??????

I would od a tune up as it calls for new plugs at 30,000 miles as well as checking the PCM. If the PCM goes 'bad' it can hold the injectors open too long whick will flood the engine. I would go with Champion coppper plugs or Champion Iridium as peolple had problems with the platinums. The 5.7 liter has 16 spark plugs; one for the ignition and one for the exhaust,

I bought a set of champion coppers and plan on putting them in tomorrow morning before the Dallas game. Since it was flooded is there a chance that gas got in with my oil? maybe leaked down the cylinder walls? I only have 400 miles on this oil change, should I go ahead and get it changed again to be safe? It doesn't really smell like gas, but it isn't quit as clean as I would expect it to be after only 400 miles. Also...how would I go about checking the PCM???
Here is a link for gas in oil which seems to point that the engine was flooded. My Demon's timing was off and this happened to me with no adverse effects:
