Default HVAC control lights

Greetings fellow Gen 2 owners:

I am the proud owner (about 1 month now) of a Flame Red 2004 SLT Hemi. I started out here back in 2006 with a beautiful Dark Garnet Pearl Gen 1 4x4 4.7L, and foolishly sold it a little over 1 year ago.

Having regretted this move shortly after, I now have the 04.

To that end, the night lights for thr HVAC controls do not light. All controls work fine, and I have even swapped the entire assembly out for another one with no change.

Since the owners manual does not include a fuse panel diagram, I cannot tell if i have a bad fuse or not. Also, do not know which of the wires on the three connectors that plug into the controller supply DC for the lights.

Any and all assistance is appreciated. Also, its GREAT to be back with a D.

Don

FF:

Thanks for the comment. Tried to look there several days in a row. Does not seem to be a current source at this time.

Any other suggestions short of ordering a FSM??

Guys:

Still no resolution on this. From looking at the factory service book, it appears that the power for these lights comes from the gauge cluster as do many other signals.

Anyone else had/conquered this issue????????????????????? Don

LH:

Ended paying local dealer to diagnose as the issue as being a bad HVAC control unit. I have yet to take it any further as the part alone is $180, and the dealer wanted $370 to replace it.......NOT!

Ill let you know how mine turns out. The control circuit for interior lights including, heated seat hi and lo indicator on, dome lights, hvac backlight, 4WD indicator, all these things are controlled from the instrument cluster. I am not receiving a output from my cluster to these things, but have all power to cluster as shown in the wiring diagram and diognostics. Mine is heading in for the recall Monday 12/13/10 and I typed out everything that is not working, printed the diognostic information for these circuits, and recorded my findings. My cluster is bad, but not sure if ME or CHRYSLER is gonna pay for it....

The 2005 had a recall on the cluster as it posed a fire hazard so I would imagine it would be replaced free of charge,

Default Finally resolved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guys:

After swapping out two different HVAC control heads, and an incorrect dealer diagnosis, the issue is resolved!

I went back to my local dealer to have them look further into this issue since two different controllers did not solve the problem. They had decided that the controller was bad.

A little more than an hour later, they announced that one of the several connectors on the rear of the gauge cluster was not fully seated.

Kudo's to them as they did not charge me for the repair.

It is unknown if this condition was caused when the cluster was inspected and/or replaced under the G07 recall which was prior to me owning it.

A very nice day after Birthday present for me indeed. Yesterday was the big 45!!!!!!
