Climate Control - Manual to Electronic
I have a 2004 4.7L SLT that I got loaded except it didn't have the automated climate control. Now a friend has totaled his Limited and is willing to let me grab the Climate Control out of his before it goes to scrap. Here's the question: aside from the control panel, what else is needed to upgrade from the manual controls to the electronic controls? I've already pulled apart my dash to put in XM Radio and have had to pull the harness for the climate control system... looked like there was quite a bit more to the harness than necessary for simple dials and sliders but I'm not sure. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Did you find any information on this? I was thinking the same thing for my 05. I got spoiled on my last vehicle with the auto climate control and was wondering if you could just switch it out. I know that in my last vehicle that part of the system was actually built into the control, it had a couple of little computer boards built right into the unit and my neighbor who is a mechanic for GM (I had an Avalanche) said that was part of the auto climate control.
In my experience, there are usually small harnesses that need to be added to add extra options on Chryslers. Some options are prewired, and the controls just "plug in". I have an '05 Durango SLT outside so I can look for the wiring later this afternoon.
I used to scour junkyards for Chryslers that had extra options, grab the controls and the small (usually 1 foot) harness for it. Then go plug it into the connector already found on my own car. On my old Mirada I added cornering lights, door courtesy lamps, overhead console with map lights, auto temp control, just to name a few options. Not sure if Chrysler continued the trend of providing the main part of the harness for all options for all vehicles.
I'll check and reply shortly....

OK here's what I found. There is a significant amount of difference between the wiring on the manual and auto A/C systems. Looks like the A/C harness would have to be changed. Here's the wiring diagrams for both.
Hope this helps.
