2007-2008 Durangos? thinking of buying..
I used to have a 2003 Dodge durango a few years back.. traded it in for a 2007 Dodge Charger SRT8 and due to moving and such, had to get rid of her
We're looking at getting a 2007 or 2008 Dodge Durango SLT 4x4 (probably 4x4 since that's all were seeming to find used)!
Had a few questions about them...
Any issues or concerns with these years or with the 4x4? or 2wd model?
How do they handle in the snow/rain?
Do they have a display for the outside temperature (hubby wanted to know this, he likes to know the temperatures
)
Do they have an auxiliary outlet for like ipods/mp3 players?
Any likes/dislikes about it?
Any other info would be great!
Thanks
Cindy

The Limited model has the upper console that dispalys the temperature, personal settings, mileage, and more. Mine does not have a port for an Ipod, but it does hace a 110 volt outlet. THe AWD (all the time) and 4x4 are great in the snow and I only had to put in 4x4 a few times last year as we got a few hundred feet of snow on the east coast. The 2008 (or 2009?) has 380 horsepower while the 2007 has 340 due to valve timing,

Thanks for your response! Yeah, we are moving from Hawaii to Pennsylvania.. The hubby is going to be going to Afghanistan shortly after and he wanted to make sure I won't get stranded somewhere.. I currently drive a regular honda civic.. and originally being from cali, i haven't had much experience with snow!
Our climate is fairly moderate with highs in the 80's during summer months and lows in the 20's in the winter months. It is close to 65 today which is normal for the beginning of fall. I would guess that in July it will go into the 90's and in February it will go into the 10's a handfull of times for both extremes. It snows around December to March and sometimes into April, but then it may be in the 70's on Halloween (for atleast the last five years it was),

2007-2008 HEMI has 335HP. 2009 HEMI got 376HP. 2008+ 4.7 has 303HP.
The fulltime AWD system does well in rain and snow. The major downfall of the Durango's 4x4 system is the open differentials. There is no limited slip. This means if a tire doesn't have traction, it will keep spinning. The Jeep Commander available with Quadra-Drive II (even Quadra-Trac II), is much better and will not get stuck as easilly as a Durango. If you want the best 4x4 system possible, consider the Jeep.
Also, the gas mileage is pretty horrible with the HEMI. I'm getting about 14MPG with mixed driving.
Depending on the type of stereo you get, there is an input for a MP3 player. The 2008+ models got a better system available, MyGig, that has a hard drive that you can store your music to and input for MP3 player.

Ok, thanks guys! We're mostly considering the Durango, because the 3rd row seating.. the Jeeps we like don't have that option. The gas can't be any worse the what my charger srt8 got! lol
But I'll look into the Jeeps and see what they have to offer as well.

IIRC the non hybrid Hemi was in the 360hp range by 08. The hybrid was rated a bit higher, near 380-385.
PM, not sure I would consider the open differentials a "major downfall", at least from an on road standpoint.
Both my 2001 AWD D as well as my current 04 have open differentials. You might recall that the Gen 1 factory LS carriers had issues with the clutch pack C clips breaking at some point, and equating to pretty big repair bills if you did not catch it early.
I am sure that off road, the open carriers would be more of a concern. Just don't want someone crossing the D off their list due to data that may not apply to their application.
