Default Key Fob dilemma?

Hello All, New guy here.

I did some searches and found some great information about the key fobs, but still scratching my head.

2004 Durango 4x4 4.7 motor SLT. I have the key and fob in one setup. Lock, unlock, panic buttons.

2 keys neither one's buttons are working. Both will start the vehical and drive. I had a straight steel key cut for a emergency get the door open only since I thought the durango had a security system. The steel key will start the truck and run fine.

SO, does this mean I do not have a factory security system?

Key fobs, Battery's replaced and it seemed fine in there, (discussions about the hold down bar broke - seemed fine) I tried to program them. I get the unlock chime, add panic button chime, release chime, then hit the unlock and lock together and nothing happens.

I took the truck and keys to the dealer and he tested the keys and they send a signal to the tester, just intermittent. So he said batterys seem ok, but fobs are toast and wanted to replace them for $200 a piece.

Does this sound right? Other Ideas, suggestions???

With Only one door lock on drivers side rather annoying trying to get in passenger side (letting wife in) with no lock hole.

Thank you and if there is a existing write up similar to this could you add the link to reply? I tried to look them all up first.

You can lock your doors with the windows down and test the secutity function. Reach in through the open windown and pull the door latch open or pull the pin up. The system should go off,

As soon as you lock the door your alarm is set. My FOBs have been shot for over two years now. Everything works fine except I have to put the key in to unlock my doors. For $200ea I would just buy a remote start system and call it a day.

Just get a stock replacement on eBay.

Your keys are factory and include the FOBs (unlike Gen1s) however your keys are not special security keys. The "key" part is just a key and the FOB part is just a FOB. Not a security key like other models with an integrated chip and that is why the other metal key works fine.

Again, just get a stock replacement on eBay and have it coded and cut to match/fit yours.

Swapping to an aftermarket alarm is troublesome in the long run and more expensive than just doing it right.

i have a 2003 durango 4.7 4x4,when started it runs for 3 seconds and shut off.
i have replaced the pcm per the dodge dealer and them flash it and i still have the same problem,so i replaced the halo reader on the switch ,per the dealer, same result...so they suggested the key...same result!whats a man to do?i feel sure it is a security problem,so my question is does the CTM intergrate with the security and could this be my problem?

START NEW THREADS FOR OTHER ISSUES

Stops after 3 secs = security alarm shutdown

CTM could be culprit
