Default Need help with fuel mileage

I own a 06 dodge durango 4x4 4.7 and Im getting kinda crappy fuel mileage I know all of the things I can do driving wise to get better fuel mileage. But is there a cheap cold air intake I can get that will help or something else I can do to get better mileage?

A tuneup with new plugs and a clean throttle body will help. The cold air will improve horsepower and torque and may help with better mileage. A Prius will give you better mileage,

THe 4.7 has a tendency to break manifold studs, so that may also have an effect on the gas mileage. Check out AEM website for cold air intaks and JBA make great exhaust headers, but I am not sure if they have applications for the 4.7 liter. Do not buy a throttle spacer as they are useless with fuel injected engines,

What MPG numbers are you seeing, smoke1444? My wife has a 2006 4.7 AWD/4x4, and she gets 12-13 in town.

Yup, that 13 in town and 17-19 on the highway is perfectly normal. From the factory, I think they were only rated at 14 city and 19 highway (for a AWD/4x4 model), and we all know how the car makers stretch those numbers for the EPA.

Best thing you can do is regular maintenance and act like there is an egg shell under the gas pedal. Slow acceleration. A CAI and most similar upgrades, despite their claims, are 99% performance, 1% gas mileage. After a CAI, electric fans, programmer, and regular maintenance, you can only expect 2 MPG or so. A good CAI will cost you a few hundred dollars, a good set of electric fans will cost you a few hundred dollars, and a programmer will cost you a few hundred dollars. Not worth it just for MPGs.
