Default durango Hemi transmission cooler size?

Hello all,
I am Jake, and I am new to this forum. I just bought a 2006 hemi dodge durango last month. The dealer provided me the built sheet the Durango did not come with the tow package. so i want to install a hitch on it my question is i saw a 12 row transmission cooler mounted vertically in front of the radiator is that enough to cool the transmission down for towing over 6000Lbs or did the tow package come with a bigger transcooler? if anyone here with the factory tow package could count the rows on their transcooler and tell me how many rows it has that would be deeply appreciated. i found that dodge carry a 12, 16, and 24 rows transcooler but it was on the RAM forum i don't think if this apply for us with the Durango.
thanks guys for any input.

thanks for your response. So,from what i understand is all the durango with the tow package came with the 16 rows transcooler. do you think i should get the 16 rows one? or will i be fine with the 11 rows one towing around 6000LBS.

Thanks I looked everywhere online for that answer. Of course I never once just peaked through a grill of a Tow package D. I can see Dodge not honoring a warranty if we indeed exceed the tow rating. While the 12 row is a pretty big cooler I may go to a 16 if it is that much bigger. Online list the same part # for the Durango's with Max cooling

latest update.

Thanks,

This is what I have been able to find. 2004-2007 the 3.7 & 4.7L use the same cooler. The 5.7 gets a different part number .

In 2008 and 2009 all the engines get the same part number and its the same as the 2004-2007 4.7L .

It appears as the 2004-2007 Hemi's got a bigger tranni cooler but in 2008 & 2009 the Hemi's got the smaller and same cooler as the 3.7 & 4.7's

Sales Codes:
[EV0]=All 4.7L V-8 Gas Engines
[EZ0]=All 5.7L V-8 Gas Engines
[NMC]=Heavy Duty Engine Cooling
[NMS]=Severe Duty Engine Cooling

2 COOLER, Transmission Oil
5.7 L 52029008AB 1 EZ0 With [NMC,NMS]
4.7 L 3.7 L 52029009AB 1 EK0, EV0 With [NMC,NMS]
5.7 L 52029009AB 1 Without [NMC,NMS]

This makes me feel better to learn that there wasnt a larger cooler for my 4.7 if it had the Tow Package. If your Hemi didnt have the Tow package you get the smaller 4.7L cooler. I think you have a fight if you add the hitch with a non tow package Hemi 2004-2007 since Dodge figured the 2008 only needed the smaller one on the 2008/09.

If mine needed to be replaced I'd put the 04-07 Hemi 16 row cooler in.

thanks, that was some good info you provided here. i will try to get the 16 rows either online or at my local junkyard. But, i believe if the 08-09 come with the smaller one so the smaller one must be adequate enough unless they add some extra fan and bigger radiator to cool it down more.

I did find a online vendor who sold the smaller 12 row for 120.00 and the larger 16 row for $96.00 new. The quick connects that connect it to the trani cooler lines are just that real quick. If you have the tool. I havent seen one other than dealer.

The Hemi radiator is the same tow package or not, BUT the Hemi Tow package Fan clutch assemby is differnent than non tow package. The non tow package fan clutch is the same as the 4.7 & 3.7 L and is used on both tow and non tow package 4.7's.

I cant find if that changes in 2008 like the tranni coolers.

How much over 6000 are you pulling and do you tow in the hills? Also a 6k lb camper is much heavie rload than a 6k boat or car trailer due to wind resistance.

I will be towing around 5500lbs from Pensacola fl to Norfolk Va, i think i might be driving on some low grade hill. i hope the transcooler can handle it, plus i read in the owner's manual to use the tow/haul when towing because it reduce heat in the transmission, thanks again for all the info.
