Default Electric Fan upgrade

School me on this upgrade.
How difficult is it to install? How much does a kit cost?
Any noticeable power and/or mpg increase?

A little more info about your Durango would help. Hemi? 4.7? AWD/4x4? Etc.

MPG increases are noticeable no matter the engine, but not substantial. Usually close to the 1-2 range.

My current ride is an '07 Durango Ltd. 5.7 AWD.
I'm looking for any way to gain a little.

I had different exhaust on my old '04 5.7, but it also had an extra 100km's
It was around 18-19 mpg.. but this '07 with mds barely makes 15-16?

The only real difference is 20" rims on my '07, and 17" on the '04.

I've heard of a few Chevy guys putting electric fans on the 6.0 litres to gain better mileage, and thought I'd check into it for my 5.7.

Are a lot of people doing this? How hard is the install and how much?

When I had my TBSS, a lot of guys were doing the efans for performance reasons. I think they were getting them from older F-Bodies if my memory is right.

I'm doing it! Any time I can add a little rwhp and save even 1-2 MPG I'm all for it. I mean that equates to 24-48 more miles per tank. For me that means at least $12-$24 savings every time I fill up. That's just the way I look at it.

When getting an e-fan, do not go cheap. A lot of guys in the Ram section grab a fan out of the salvage yard from Lincoln Mark VII cars, if memory serves. High output fan, with its own shroud and everything, but... it pulls a TON of amps off your electrical system. Way more than a newer, modern fan would. Will most likely ruin or cause premature failure of the alternator.

A lot of the 2002-2008 (3rd gen) Ram guys use the Flex-a-Lite Black Magic 180 e-fan. Moe's Performance has the cheapest price on that, around $250, IIRC.

I took the e-fan off my Demon for the same reason that it killed my alternator. I had it put on to gain a few horsepower, not to save fuel,

Some of these "pic-n-pull" fans can draw over 70 amps!!! I spent the extra and bought the Flex-a-Lite kit, pulls 18 amps and at 3300 cfm is even stronger than most pic-n-pull fans...

I'm looking at the Flex-A-Lite 188 Black Magic Xtreme 15" E Fan. Seems to be one of the better ones out there. Anyone know any better?
