Default Check engine code on my 04 Durango

Hi guys,

I have a 2004 Durango and the check engine light came on today.

I did the key dance and the code that came up read something like "U 1103 C" or the U could have been a "J" I'm not really sure. But it wasn't a "P"

I looked at the code index on this sight and didn't find anything with 1103.

What in the wide, wide world of sports is happening here?

That is a code for a loss of serial communication with a secondary device if memory serves me right.

Something along the lines of a factory CD changer, OEM nav system, I think even a factory DVD monitor will generate this code.

You got something like that stopped working?

Edit: I just looked it up. U1103 is: Dialogue with the Stop & Start ECU : Absence of communication

So I guess it could be ANYTHING connected to the ECU or the ECU itself. If the vehicle is functioning properly it's probably a device like I originally suspected, but could possibly be a deeper problem...

The cruise control quit working a few days ago.

I didn't worry about it because I drove a Chevy Blazer for years without a working cruise or ABS.

Is the ECU a do-it-yourself job or should I bite the bullet and take it to the dealer?
