Default 04 Durango 5.7 HEMI Limited rough idle

I am not sure I would call it a rough idle, as I am driving down the hwy when I let up on the throttle my D acts as though it wants to die. I have read a lot about the ETC and that is what it seems like, but it also seems like my transmission is aboiut to drop on the ground as I take my foot off the throttle. My CEL comes on for a couple of days then it will just go off. Only 1 time has the ETC light come on and it ran really bad, we limped it off the freeway to our destination, unplugged the battery and that seemed to reset it. However, it really hasn't ran the same since then. I get terrible fuel milage and I very seldom tow anything. 14-15 on the highway isn't very good to me and I am very easy with my D. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Need to get it to an auto parts store that will read your codes for free (most will do that) and then tell us what it is.

THe key dance should work on the odometer. Turn the key from off to on (not start) three times ending on on and the odometer will flash either a P---- code or will read DONE,
